I finished watching the first season of Adventure Time last night. Prior to watching it in full, I’ve seen six episodes, which sounds like a lot, but it isn’t really. I just watched two episodes on Cartoon Network, and then I watched all the episodes that had Lemongrab in them, haha.
Anyway, I really like Adventure Time. I was kind of averse to watching it…I didn’t dislike it or its fans, but I didn’t understand why it was so popular with teenagers. And there is a general stigma against liking popular/mainstream things which I want to get over (more on that later; I spent a lot of time yesterday thinking about the nature of this problem).
There’s especially a stigma against young adults liking cartoons. Most of the people I know who like cartoons are also artists, though, so I feel like that’s a genuine interest, if that makes sense. A professional interest, a true preference. I was interested in Adventure Time because I really liked the art style and animation.
I never draw fan art, but I drew two pieces for Adventure Time: Lemongrab and a humanized version of Lumpy Space Princess.
I could go on and on about how much I love Lemongrab and why I think he’s such a perfect character, but I think it boils down to this: I love when characters suffer. When their lives are just so terrible and their minds are just so broken; it’s exquisite. Which sounds weird, I know. Also, Lemongrab is hilarious.
I love his screaming voice. The fact that he snaps over little things because he’s disturbed. And I like that he’s disturbed because he’s a failed science experiment a la Frankenstein’s monster, and he was totally isolated from society, and wracked with loneliness. I love that he gets a little better when Princess Bubblegum makes him a clone…so he has a friend just like himself, so he learns to love himself. I think that Lemongrab is a wonderfully complex character; I hope more episodes feature him, even if they’re just little instances for comedic effect.
I really need to finish inking and coloring my drawings. I love Photoshop, don’t get me wrong; it’s just so easy to get lost in the internet and ignore activities that require an ounce of skill.

Lemongrab kind of grew on me. I thought he was kind of annoying at first but now Ive warmed up to him.
I love his: "Unacceptable!!!" I sometimes mutter that to myself at work XD
I pretty much love all the characters. Gunter and BMO are my favorites though. LSP is a close third.
Love all the genderbent characters too!
I relate to Lemongrab a lot, which sounds kind of not-good. I think he's fascinating! It seems like a lot of fans find him annoying at first, but then grow to love him.
I haven't watched the genderbent episode(s) yet, but I do think the character designs look really cool :D
